well then

Yeah, Stev. There's not much hope for 6 or 7 wins now, let alone a playoff berth, for the Birds.

But there is a great story for all of us to jump in on. Speaking of Jeff Garcia, what has your old team been up to? Very quietly, they have made it to 5-5. This despite the rumors of them moving, their inexperienced quarterback who only threw one touchdown in his rookie campaign last year, their top draft pick hurt for most of the year, their only great defender lost to free agency before the season, and overall a roster mostly devoid of talent. Seriously, name five people on this team. Name one guy on defense. Can you do it? I can't, and I can recite the Eagles' roster front and back plus every NBA team whilst drunk. I don't know who their receivers are, other than Penn State's uber-slash-athlete Michael Robinson, and I don't think he's been the one doing everything for them. I predicted maybe six wins for them on name only. I thought they were the least talented team in the league, save for the Raiders, but even the Raiders have big names. I don't know they did it.

Yet there they are at 5-5 and in the very thick of the playoff race. We can count the Eagles out now, and the Vikings have been slowly sinking. In fact, every team in the race for the wild card took a dive on Sunday excpet for them and the Cowboys. They've won three in a row and the schedule is not impossible. They have two huge games coming up against St. Louis and New Orleans. If they can win those two, and it's very possible, then they'll be in great shape. Who could have seen this when they were 1-3 and getting blanked 41-0 by the Chiefs.... or 2-5 and getting destroyed by the Bears?

Well, with all the moving talk, with the allaged death of the franchise, they clearly have become the feel-good story of the year. We all have different teams to follow on this site, but everyone can get behind them. Let us embrace the Fortynomads in their unbelievable run.

Maybe now they won't end up in Pennsauken.

Yea, they're quite the sleeper success. You can credit Frank Gore for most of that; his running game has been tops.

And their rookie QB seems to be hitting his stride.

It also helps to be in a god-awful division.
