So that's it then for this year....

It was weird, seeing the season end like that. I was sure it was over a few months ago, but every week they kept finding ways to pull it out. And now... gone.

It was over too quick. But they did a good job with all the adversity. I could eludicate on this longer, but I'll say that they turned another nightmare season into one of their most inspiring efforts in the last decade. With all the uncertainty in the conference, I have to say that things are looking good for them again. People thought that all the other NFC East teams had passed them and that their window of opportunity was over.

Well, those three teams are in a mess right now. Maybe not the Cowboys so much, but the Eagles should have the inside track to the division next year. Of course, you never know in pro football, but there's hope. Hope for all.

Some good signs: they have talent and depth at receiver and defensive line, two areas that had worried me in recent seasons. That's important. Obviously, the big question is going to be what to do with Donovan and everyone else at QB, but the rest of the roster is good and they finally started managing time better during the late part of the season. I hope that.

I'm not claiming conspiracy here, but it's clearly in the NFL's interest for a great story to have the Saints do well this season. I had a feeling they were going to make it far... and I should've followed that during picks time. They're a good story, and I can root for them or the Bears to represent the NFC. The Birds are in good shape (but for God's sake, even though Buckhalter is easing back, draft a running back so you won't be sorry when he blows out his knee again.... you know it's coming...).

In fact, you can say that both PA team had all kinds of shit happen to them this year, yet they got through it, and they both finished on a major upswing. Short of a Super Bowl, you can't ask for more than that.

I normally get peeved when typical Birds fans blame something that happens in the last five minutes for losing a game when in most cases, it was poor playing throughout the game.

But no, it came down to those two fucking mistakes.

1) Keep your goddamn hand down!

2) Go for it on 4th and 15! You went for it on 4th and 10, maybe there was the element of surprise there. Punting the ball left New Orleans with only needing ONE first down to win and they got it easily.

That decision to punt will not soon be forgotten back home. You can say that the D was sucking it big time during the second half, and they were, but that's even more of a reason to go for it rather than hope and pray to get it back with like 30 seconds left....

He had to know that wasn't happening, and Akers can hit it pretty far in a dome.... that pretty much ruined the good faith he had earned by smarter playcalling at the end of the season.

And that backup guard sucks.
