This is the time to wake that s up!
I was going to write a lengthy piece on Michael Vick, but then I had to work a lot and get ready to move, so I never did. Let's just say that I am approaching this with caution. I think he should be allowed to play and I don't harbor any resentment for his playing on a personal note, just to clarify. My concerns are all on the field. I don't know that I want him playing QB for an extended period of time; he was never that great in a pass-heavy system like the Eagles use. I guess they can simplify things and use him as they would another backup, and they will certainly use him in some trick plays and weird formations, but is that enough for all the trouble he brings? By trouble I mean that the press will make him a big story when it's not and it will be a distraction, not that he will screw up. I think he'll be on the straight and narrow. I just worry about the attention.
I don't know if it is worth the money and the roster spot for a guy who may not do anything in every game, and I liked A. J. Feeley as the steady backup in case McNabb got hurt (I still want to see more on Kolb, but that's going to have to wait). Now that he's gone, you have to believe that the Eagles will throw Vick out there if they need a QB, and that worries me a little. If their reciever corps was terrible, I might like him as a slot wideout / specialist for a few plays, but they have finally got that position back up to par. I don't know. I just don't know.
Anyway, I'm going to have a season preview soon, just like I always did. I am going to post picks every week, again, as is my usual. This is the first year in a while that I'm not in a serious competition for picking winners, but if you guys want to do something for free, I'm going to post as those it means something. For posterity, and the good of the TNTGFAS nation.
